There is so much to do in the Ohope/Whakatane area!

The eastern Bay of Plenty covers an area from Otumarakau to Cape Runaway. There are a multitude of activities to make your summer, or winter holiday, an experience to remember - and most are right at our doorstep!

Just one minute's walk from your doorstep, stroll along Ohope Beach's 11 kms of beautiful sandy shore, voted the best beach in NZ in 2013. At West End, one will find surfers hoping to catch a wave or two.

Maybe you would like to go swimming with Diveworks ­ Dolphin and Seal Encounters. Charter fishing boats are available should pulling in your own dinner be on your 'to do' list.

Visit the Aniwhenua Falls with Kiwi Jet Boat Tours and experience the majestic Matahina Lake and Rangitaiki River surrounded by sheep and dairy farms. Choose from a selection of tours with Waimarino Kayak Tours.

Enjoy a latte and browse through the local Ohope shops (5 minutes drive). Enjoy the great ambience with good coffee and food at The Quay Cafe and Moxi Cafe. Visit Distinct and buy some flowers or something from the lovely objet d'art you will find there. If chocolates are your passion, then visit Scilla Chocolates, now on the Strand in Whakatane. Hand-made and exquisite. For art and jewellery pop into 4 ART SAKE to view a great collection by local artists.

For the bike riders, there are several bike trails in the area. Just around the corner is the somewhat challenging but beautiful Burma Trail (also good for walking). The Motu trail is becoming very popular. Also, bush walks for those who enjoy a good walk. Book a night walk to listen to the Kiwi's in the bush.

Golfers are well accommodated in the area. There are five courses within 45 minutes drive from Ohope. The closest being the Ohope International Golf Club which is rated within the top 10 courses in New Zealand. A links course with a vista that cannot be beaten, the harbour on one side and the ocean the other.

A wonderful children's playground is just 2 minutes walk away. Four Square Superette next door along with a Wine and Spirit Shop.

At the end of the day before dining at one of the local restaurants, enjoy a wine or beer by the beach or upstairs on the deck at Seaview Bed and Breakfast. Local Ohope restaurants include: The Fisherman's Wharf, Cadera - Mexican, C’Vue Restaurant - Charter Club.
